Why I need to travel more

I need to travel more

I’m just home from an amazing four days in Split, Croatia. It was a wonderful few days spent relaxing at the beach during the day, and drinking in the old town at night. Being in another country got me thinking about how I definitely need to travel more and exploring the world.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had the privilege of visiting many countries. I’ve been to France, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, America, Turkey, Croatia, the Netherlands and Hungary. All of which are stunning countries with so much history and culture. But I want to visit more. I want to make even more memories and experience more new things.

Something I would really love to do is some solo travelling. Even if it’s only a weekend in Barcelona, I would love to do something by myself. A girl I know is just back from a three week trip around Europe and it literally looked like the most amazing trip. She visited so many places and met so many people and made so many memories.

So I’ve made a decision. Next summer I am going to be doing some travelling around Europe. Hopefully I’ll be able to do a month, but if I happen to have found a full time job by then I would even settle for a week or two. I’m going to need to do a lot of saving, but it’s definitely something I really want to do.

The biggest fear for me about travelling alone is definitely the worry that I won’t be able to make any friends and that I’ll end up being lonely. But I do know that deep down that is a silly fear and that once I get out there and into hostels I will get meeting lots of new people.

There’s a few options of places I might want to go. I love the idea of travelling around mainland Europe, and maybe going to the likes of Venice, Prague and Rome. But then again I really loved Croatia and would love to do island hopping. But I can decide what I want to do closer to the time.

Have you ever solo travelled? Where did you go?

I need to travel more

  • I’ve never solo travelled and definitely think it wouldn’t be for me (too much of a scaredy cat), but I hope you have a great time if you go anywhere! xx

  • I’m planning on doing this myself to! My only issue is I suck at directions and scared of getting lost at night aha! I do enjoy having the company of someone else but it is always great meeting new people x

  • Sian…

I solo travel around the UK all the time and love it! I just make sure I plan everything beforehand! I’d love to go travelling around the US but that would require lots of pennies!

  • Congrats on making the decision to do more travelling, I’m sure it will only bring you wonderful experiences and happy memories! I am taking my first ever solo trip in just a week’s time, I’m off on a yoga retreat in Portugal all by myself! With Europe right on our doorsteps, I see no reason not to explore the continent more, and I look forward to following your travels through your blog!

  • I’ve never solo travelled before, and I don’t think I ever could! I hope your next holiday is everything you’ve imagined it to be and more šŸ™‚

  • I totally agree with you I’ve always been really nervous about solo travelling because I don’t think I’d make friends! I tend to travel a few times a year but I also go with uni or with friends because it’s amazing x

If you have any tips, please send them my way!

  • I haven’t, but I so want to go on a solo trip! I would probably get lonely at times but I feel like the pros would outweigh the cons of being alone haha. I visited Split last month, isn’t it a gorgeous place?!

    • I’m thinking of taking part in a tour first, so while I am kind of solo-travelling, I’m with people and everythings organised for me! Oh it was absolutely stunning! Loved the old-town. Would love to go back

I’m all for staycations. So many amazing places to visit here in the UK.

  • I am actually going on a solo trip in two weeks time to Canada, well actually I am going to study abroad for year. You should visit Venice, it is such a lovely and photographic city.
