What to do when you aren’t in the mood to blog

Things you can do when you aren't in the mood to blog

We all have those periods when we just can’t find the motivation to blog. Wether it’s because we’re too busy, we have other things on our mind or simply because we’ve ran out of ideas, it happens to the best of us. But just because you don’t have the motivation to write a post, doesn’t mean you have to ignore your blog. So today I thought I would share a few ways to stay on top of your blog when you’re in a slump.

Take part in a twitter chat

A twitter chat can be a fun way to both motivate yourself and promote your blog. Whenever I’m in a slump I always make a special effort to take part in a chat, because talking to other bloggers and helping each other normally always helps to give me a bit of motivation. It’s also a great way to promote your blog and social media since you would normally end the chat by sharing your link with the chat.

Fix your broken links

We all hate fixing broken links. It’s a bit like cleaning our makeup brushes: we know it has to be done, but we keep putting off even though we know that will only make it worse. So if you find yourself staring at a blank screen when trying to write a post, why not instead fix those pesky broken links?

Tidy up old blog posts

As time goes on, all of our old posts become slightly dated. So when you find yourself unmotivated, it’s a great idea to tidy up old posts! Not only will this help you keep your blog fresh and up-to-date, it might even give you some inspiration for a new post.

Have a social media clear out

Lets be honest, over time we always end up following accounts that we really don’t have any interest in. And I always find that when my social media is clogged up with uninspiring accounts, it has an effect on my mindset. So go through your social media accounts and get rid of any negative or uninspiring accounts.

Reply to your emails

I can’t be the only blogger out there who is terrible at replying to emails. And it’s not even like I get that many to begin with, but when I’m working 42 hours a week, emails just tend to take a backseat when it comes to my blog. So when you’re not in the mood to write, it is the perfect opportunity to do all that admin you’ve put off.

What do you like to do when you aren’t in the mood to blog?

  • Sian…

I needed this post right now! I’ve not posted in a while but I’ve been trying to sort out my social media and plan out some new posts when I’m in the mood. It’s also important to take a break when you want to!

  • Ok I loved this post. For the past month I’ve felt really detached from my blog and haven’t felt it’s been as good as it can be and I’ve literally had no idea what to do!

I’ll be taking these points on board when I’m in a particularly bad slump x

  • It definitely is hard to keep in the mood for blogging sometimes. Nice tips here though – I defintely think cleaning up your blog & fixing the broken links etc is one of the best things to do.

  • This is such a useful post, Lauren! Doing things like this means that you don’t fall behind even when you’re not in the mood to write out a post or take photos! I’d add in to this list participating in comment swaps, they’re a great way to check out new content that you wouldn’t otherwise come across, and boost engagement on your own blog! Thanks for sharing these tips!

I usually lack motivation when I actually set aside organised time to blog and end up binge watching Netflix! Will put these tips into practice next time!

  • Lauren Wilkinson

I’m terrible at updating my older posts and this is something I definitely need to get better at. I usually take a break and try and find inspiration away from the screen πŸ™‚

  • Great post! I’ve been struggling this year with motivation that always leave me feeling guilty about neglecting my blog. Next time I’m definitely going to give these a go – I dread to think how many broken links I’ve got! XO

  • Lucy

Great post, I wish I saw this sooner! As been in that mood for almost a month! Thank you sharing! xxxxxx

  • It’s been ages since I’ve been in a twitter chat! I think it’s a good idea to focus on tweeking/fixing things on your blog if your feeling a bit unmotivated or suffering from bloggers block until you find your mojo again. Reading other peoples posts and going through my make up stash helps motivates me
