How to increase your social media presence

How to increase your social media presence

Over the past few months I have made it my goal to increase my social media presence. Back in November when I decided I was going to start putting my all into my blog, I knew that one of the main things I had to do was to increase my followers across all of my social media platforms, mainly Twitter and Instagram. Fast forward three months and I have finally hit 1000 followers on twitter, and my Instagram followers are growing at a decent speed! So I thought I would share a few tips with you all.

Be Active

This is one of the most ignored, yet it is the most important. The best way to grow followers on any platform is to be active. I’m not saying that you have to live on your social media, but if you go a few days with out going onto a platform, you should expect a drop in followers.

Engage with people

On twitter, the best way to do this is through twitter chats and by replying to peoples tweets. Search hashtags such as #thegirlgang and answer people questions. Retweet people. I can’t tell you how many times somebody has followed me back after I’ve retweeted one of their promotional tweets. On Instagram you have to comment, comment, comment. Search through hashtags that you use and comment on pictures in it. And by a comment, I mean a genuine comment, not just ‘nice pic’.

Join comment pods

Ok so this one only applies to Instagram and blog posts, but if you have the time then definitely join a comment pod! I’m currently in three comment pods and I’m thinking of joining another. Basically, when you post a picture, you share it to the group and everyone goes and comments and likes, and you do the same.

Tweet out your links

Obviously this doesn’t help you grow your twitter, but it really does help grow your other platforms! Tweet out your links for your instagram, blog, pinterest, etc, and let people know where they can find you!

So there you have it: tips for growing your social media presence. Keep in mind I am not an expert, but I’ve honestly done more in the past few months for my social media presence, than in the first 3 years of blogging, so I thought I would share.

What tips do you have for growing a social media presence?

I started blogging at the beginning of January, so I’m still trying to wrap my head around the use of social media for it. I’m a lot more active on Instagram I feel, than I would be on Twitter but I’m not sure if that’s necessarily a bad thing x

    • It’s takes some getting used to, but it’s one of the best things for your blog! I think it’s all a preference thing, I really love twitter because I love talking to so many amazing people 🙂 Thanks for reading (and good luck with your blog!)

Definitely agree with all of these points, being active and consistent is so so important. I notice if i miss a few days off of social media ive lost a few followers. Its practically a full time job lol

    • It really is isn’t it Rianne! I’m lucky I can normally sneak onto social media during work so I can’t get a bit of tweeting in throughout the day

These are some really useful tips!
I always try to engage as much as I can with others, but sometimes there just isn’t enough time in the day. The one which I didn’t do at all last year was join any chats, so that was my goal for 2017. So far so good!

    • I totally know what you mean Alys! I’m lucky that I can normally get on the odd bit during work but there’s days I really struggle to get on at all. Oh I would definitely recommend twitter chats, I always see an increase in numbers during chats

I’m new to blogging and didn’t know what a comment pod was. I kindly asked someone who had posted on a FB group page asking persons if they wanted to join, what it was and she never answered. Thank you for sharing.

  • Great post! I wish I had the time to join more comment pods, because they really encourage me to get better and better with blogging. I need to improve my social media presence for sure, being active is really difficult at this time of year with it being my last year at uni but hopefully after graduation I can give blogging my all!

Great tips. I haven’t been active for a few days and noticed a drop. It is impossible sometimes though as I have just completed my facials course and needed all my attention. Catching up now though haha xxxxxx

  • Totally loved these points. I try to do these regularly but it’s not always easy when I am so busy with work. I am going to try and make a conscious effort to do more of these 🙂 I find it so hard to be constantly active as sometimes my life is just quiet but effort is required. Love this 🙂 xxx

Being active is so true. I’ve haven’t been on Twitter as much as usual in 2017 and I’ve noticed my follower count keeps decreasing slowly which sucks! Obviously life happens but if you can, being involved in chats and chatting to others will always help increase your presence!

  • Being active is key to engagement and increasing your social media presence. After taking a month or so away from blogging I have seen a decline in social media engagement and followings.

Being in a comment pod is great too – really helps with getting engagement on posts but also good for reading other people’s posts too!

I’ve just opened tweetdeck to get my lazy ass to schedule some tweets for throughout the month!
Thanks for sharing – fab post! 🙂
