5 Beauty Lessons I Ignore

Beauty lessons I ignore

We all have those beauty lessons that we have been taught over the years. Lessons that have been passed down from our mothers and our grandmothers, or the lessons that we picked up through years of pouring over magazines. But while we may have many of these lessons that we follow religiously, there are also those that, while we know they are important, we just don’t manage to follow.

Removing makeup at night.

Ah this is one of those lessons that I try so hard to follow, yet you can guarantee I will slip up at least once a month. Those slips normally happen when I’ve had one too many cocktails which further adds to the destroyal of my skin.
Ps… Does anybody else get ridiculously proud the morning after a night out if they’ve woken up to discover they took their makeup off?

Cleaning brushes at least once a week.

The previous rule is one that I tend to slip up on only once a month, but cleaning my brushes is something I slip up on most weeks. I know it’s disgusting, but I can go weeks without cleaning my brushes. I’m just too lazy. The only plus side is I have so many brushes I can normally find a fairly clean one to use!

Sticking to make-up expiration dates

Ok, lets be honest. How many of us actually stick to these dates? I mean, chucking out a mascara after 6 months? An eyeshadow after two? I do not spend all my money on eyeshadow palettes just to throw them away 2 years later. I bought my first MAC eyeshadow 6 years ago and I am still using it. Not even guilty.

Drink 8 glasses of water a day

I try, I really do. But I just can’t get it into my routine. Even when I buy myself a litre bottle of water to drink over the course of the day, I just forget about it. I’m a terrible person when it comes to drinking in general. I can go most of the day without drinking anything beyond a cup of coffee first thing. Is it any wonder I get headaches?

Don’t share mascara/eyeliner

I know it can lead to infections, but if my friends ask me for my mascara, you can rest assured I’m giving them it.

What beauty lessons do you ignore?

  • Lurganista

Shamefully I too don’t wash my brushes weekly. I’m a bold one.

    • I’m glad most people seem to not clean them weekly, makes me feel less guilty about it ha

  • Helena Mulhearn

I dont wash my brushes weekly although i always take my makeup off every night!!

    • I really need to get into the habit of taking mine off every night. Theres very few nights I do miss, but it’s still more than I want to

  • Alys George

Oh gosh this post makes me realise how much of this stuff I just don’t do which is terrible!
I wash my makeup brushes like once a month, I think? I use my beauty sponge more so that’s my excuse. My friends never ask to borrow my makeup so I cleared that one nice and easy!
I think the one point I do always do without fail is take my makeup off before bed. I’m barely through the door and I’m taking it off my face!

    • It’s so annoying to do, I don’t know how people can have the energy to clean them once a month! Oh my friends ask all the time ha, we share our makeup every time we go out
      x Lauren

  • Omg I am sooo bad at cleaning my brushes. I actually dread so i never do it as frequently as I should.. oops!

    Enclothed Cognition

    • It’s just such a horrible chore isn’t it? If only we could pay somebody to do it!
      x Lauren

  • Oh my goodness I practically never worry about makeup expiration dates hahah! So long as there’s no Mould growing in it, it’s fiiiiine haha! 😂 I do always take off my makeup before bed just because I’m paranoid about getting spotty 🙈 Thanks for sharing this, love this style of post!

    • Haa I’m the same Abbey! If it looks right then it’s going on my face. I’m paranoid about getting spotty as well so I really try, but sometimes I just fail ha. Glad you like it! I loved writing it 🙂

  • ADoseOfChatter

Hahahaha this was brilliant! The one thing I stick to is taking my makeup off at the end of the day/night but I NEVER clean my brushes 😂😂 Also beautiful flatlay!

    Love Izzy | http://www.ADoseOfChatter.com

    • Thanks Izzy! Ha I never clean them either. I tend to clean them only if I have a big event coming up because I hope it will help make me makeup look better ha

As much as I take off my makeup every night, I usually take it off with just wipes. I’m only just learning to actually wash my face at night. Is there anyone who sticks to expiry dates. I mean I’m over here building a collection, I can’t be tossing makeup.

    • I try to use micellar water for taking my makeup, but if I’m feeling lazy I’ll use wipes. Oh I’m sure there are some people ha. It might be possible if you have very little makeup, but as you said… we’re building collections ha!
      x Lauren

  • I don’t think I actually do any of these. I only recently started taking my make-up off at night haha. I don’t drink enough water, wash my brushes often enough or throw make-up away on their dates. Love this it’s so good to see i’m not the only one 🙂 xxx

    Rach | http://doublejointedgirlandherdog.blogspot.co.uk/

    • Oh you are definitely not the only one Rachel! They are just such struggles sometimes ha
      x Lauren

  • Sian…

I’m a bit of a clean freak so I always making sure that I wash my brushes and face on a night! I’m sure you’re not alone on most of these points though!

    Sian x

    • Oh I wish I was the same. I just have that many brushes and I can never be bothered to spend the time!
      x Lauren

  • I will never ever ever sleep with makeup on, ever! There were times where I’ve fallen asleep before but something would push me awake in a panic five minutes later, reminding me I haven’t taken my makeup off! You’ve reminded to wash my makeup brushes though, hahaha, it has been a while…

    • I really try not to, but there are times where unfortunately I’ve just had one too many drinks ha! But it something I try to make an effort to do, even if it’s only by using a wipe. Thanks for reading!
